Filter ("we," "our," or "us") provides a browser extension and website that help you save and read web articles in a calm, distraction-free way. Your privacy is very important to us. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
1. Information We Collect
1.1. When You Use the Filter Extension
- Saved articles: When you click the Filter button, the extension captures the article's title, byline, publication URL, and main content.
- Optional metadata: Filter may store Open Graph or Twitter Card data (such as preview image and description) if available on the page.
- No browsing history: We do not track or log pages you visit outside of those you explicitly save.
1.2. When You Visit Our Website
- Analytics (optional): We may use privacy-respecting analytics (for example, self-hosted or anonymized metrics) to understand usage trends.
- Server logs: Our web server may temporarily log requests (IP address, browser type, date/time) for basic security and performance monitoring. Logs are automatically deleted or anonymized after a short period.
1.3. When You Contact Us
If you email us for support or feedback, we'll receive your message and reply-to address solely for that conversation.
2. How We Use Information
We use collected data only to:
- Save and display your selected articles.
- Improve reliability and performance of Filter.
- Respond to support requests.
We never sell, rent, or share personal information with advertisers or third parties.
3. Local Storage
Articles you save are stored either:
- Locally in your browser's storage (by default), or
- Securely on our servers if you have a Filter account or sync enabled.
You can delete any saved item at any time through the extension or by contacting us.
4. Data Sharing
- We do not share or sell your data.
- We may disclose limited information if required by law (for example, a valid subpoena or court order).
5. Cookies
- Filter itself does not use cookies.
- Our website may use minimal cookies only for essential functionality (for example, session persistence or CSRF protection).
6. Data Retention
- Locally stored articles remain until you remove them.
- Server-stored articles or analytics data are retained only as long as needed for functionality and then securely deleted or anonymized.
7. Security
We use encryption (HTTPS/TLS) and other best practices to protect data in transit and at rest. However, no system is 100% secure; please use Filter responsibly and avoid saving sensitive or private information.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. To make a request, email privacy@filter.app and we'll respond promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll post a notice on our website or within the extension.
